Reviews

Napoleon in Egypt, c.1799.    An important document signed by General Napoleon  one week before his departure and return to France, an initiative that remains controversial although instrumental in rescuing France from the remains of Revolutionary maladministration.  The document is dated June 22, 1799 with the distinctive letterhead:  Republique Francaise, Bonaparte, General en Chef.  The ALS text is in the hand of his personal secretary, Bourrienne, a normal arrangement in official correspondence.  The signature and letterhead are that of Napoleon with a strong signature in ink, Bonaparte in page centre.  Egyptian campaign documents are amongst the rarest of Napoleon's signed examples; in fine gilt frame 15 3/4 x 12 3/8.
