1e Empire Cavalry Musician’s Drum, c.1805. This splendid early period drum, in the style ‘A La Fantasie’, is dark blue with a beautifully painted Crowned Imperial Eagle clutching lightning bolts, and stands at 13 1/2 inches with a diameter of 12 3/4 inches. The wooden hoops are also dark blue with diagonal red and white stripes. The drum was restored in 1987 so that the skin, cords and buff leather stays are contemporary. Condition is outstanding and included is a letter of authentication from Raoul Brunon, Conservateur of the Musee de l’Empire at Salon-de-Provence; from Flayderman & Co, Florida and from French Napoleonic authority, Philippe Messillier.
