Gentleman's Napoleonic Travelling Desk Clock, c.1800/04

Price:   $ 3,250.00

Officer or Gentleman´┐Żs Gilt Traveling Desk Clock, c.1800-1804.  This beautifully appointed timepiece is probably of English manufacture since an identical clock with the bust of Nelson was produced several years before the Battle of Trafalgar.  The case, of gilded copper, has upon the lid a portrait bust in relief of Napoleon as 1e Consul and, beneath the shoulder, the word Buonaparte and the initials M&PF.  The sides of the case are decorated with a Greek key pattern design.  The clock face is white porcelain with Arabic numerals, the quarter hours noted and the face further marked by the minute.  The mechanism is revealed by pressing a small catch on the side which allows the face to hinge outwards by 90 degrees or more, thus exposing the complete movement.  There is a key to wind the clock.  The bust of Napoleon as Consul determines that the clock was made between 1800 and 1804.  A  rare prize in superb condition
