Shako, 2e Infantry Regiment Grenadier, modele 1812. This is the transitional pattern shako, 1810 model body trimmed with 1812 fittings. The leather of this artifact is notable for the exact duplication of the correct pattern on the peak and the roll over edge of the top formed in exactly the same manner as the Emperor’s headgear contractors. The body itself is covered with the highest quality 19th century woolen broadcloth and the visor and crown made of oak tanned leather. Materials used are Fuller’s board, century old black woolen broadcloth, Oak tanned leather, Belgium sheepskin, hempen cloth, sheet brass and woolen yarn.
