1st Restoration Period Grenadier a Cheval Trooper’s Sabre. The blade of this massive and rare heavy cavalry sabre is engraved, Gardes Du Corps Du Roi with Fleur de Lys above and below and Trumpet with crossed spears and laurel leaves. The reverse repeats the trumpet motif above a Crown and Bourbon shield and laurel wreath. The backstrap is engraved Manufre ‘Rle’ du Klingenthal Coul…. and the blade stamped and marked with imprints of Inspecteurs Borson and Bick c.1814. The weapon is 45 inches from hilt to scabbard drag and the blade is 36 inches; the brass hilt displays the flaming grenade between the double branch knucklebow. There is some wear from use but condition is generally very good, testament to the service of this substantial weapon; there is a new hide sword knot. Few if any examples of weapons produced during Napoleon’s Elba confinement are seen today which marks the desirability of this example to collectors of Napoleonic arms.
