British Midshipman’s Naval Dirk: Napoleonic Era. This exceptional gilt and ivory midshipman's naval dirk is complete in its original leather scabbard. The ivory hilt is cross hatched with chain knucklebow, the back piece has a lion or seal head and the quillon is an S form, all with traces of gilt. The curved blade is 13 inches long, 17 inches in the scabbard to the hilt pommel. The scabbard retains its original suspension rings. Overall, the condition is VG with typical pitting on the blade from storage in the unlined leather sheath. A beautiful weapon, c.1805. |
