Colpack, Aide de Camp to a General Officer, c.1813. A most elegant prize, magnificent in its relative simplicity, covered in black fur with gold trim. Modern bullion trim comes in three grades: #1, the highest, is silver wire coated in gold, 2nd grade is coloured aluminium and the third grade, coloured cellophane. (Ugh). Grade #1 has a silk thread centre to which silver wire of the required size is woven to standard patterns. It is much heavier than grades 2 and 3 and is seldom used by today’s military; it is imported from France. The materials for the ADC colpack are: Fuller’s board, black rabbit pelts, Belgium sheepskin, hempen cloth, woollen broadcloth, cotton soutache, cock feathers and grade #1 gold bullion.
