Napoleonic Cavalry Officer’s Toilette, c.1812. This superb mahogany and brass inlay Officer's toilette is, 8 5/8 x 4 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches, is complete with personal grooming and basic medical instruments. The tooled leather lift out tray has recesses formed to contain various tweezers, scissors and picks, several with ivory handles. Under the tray are vinaigrette and powder boxes, a turned ivory spindle, and next to it two porcelain cups and two crystal cut perfume bottles. The lid has the maker’s label that reads: Maire, Rue St. Honore No. 234, vis a vis l’Oratoire A Paris. The original lock key is present. The Toilette is from the collection of French historian and dealer, Bertrand Malveux. |
