Napoleon in Egypt Panoramas from La Description d’Egypte. These extremely rare plates were published in France after the return of Napoleon from the Egyptian Expedition in 1801. Such was the complexity of the Description d’Egypte that it took over 25 years to complete and the efforts of over 2000 artists and 400 engravers. The full title in English is: Description of Egypt, or the collection of observations and research which was made in Egypt during the expedition of the French Army. The first three engravings show panoramic views of the City and Harbour of Alexandria in 1800; plates 2a and 2b are in fact two sequential and connecting views.
