French Empire Victoire Silk Suspension Mantle Clock, 1st Consul period, c.1802. A lovely French figural gilt bronze mantle clock featuring a full standing robed woman holding a wreath in victory. A rare clock in this form, it probably dates from the Consulate period of 1799-1804, before Napoleon elected himself Emperor. The front of the case is mounted with ribbons, garlands and filigree, silk thread movement and a porcelain dial with moon hands. Overall very fine condition with slight bend near rear leg. 8 inches wide, 11 high and 2 1/2 deep. |
